Unterirdische Orte, LED-Werbeflächen im gesamten Stadtraum
Die Arbeit Underground Bodies gibt Einblick in unsichtbare Zwischenwelten. An mehreren Orten unter der Stadt – in Brückenschächten, Abwasserkanälen oder U-Bahn-Bereichen – sind halbabstrakte Metallskulpturen installiert. Bestückt mit Schmuck sowie Imitationen von Haar oder Haut erinnern sie an menschliche Körper. Zugleich wecken die Skulpturen Assoziationen an das verzweigte Netz der Stadt. Ihre fragmentarische Form entzieht sich klaren Zuschreibungen. Underground Bodies verbindet die oberirdische Lebenswelt mit den verborgenen Infrastrukturen, die den „Stadtkörper“ am Leben halten. Über Videoaufnahmen werden die Skulpturen aus der Dunkelheit ins Licht geholt. Die Projektionen sind auf LED-Flächen im gesamten Stadtraum zu sehen. So entsteht eine doppelte Präsenz: Die an unterirdischen Orten verankerten Skulpturen treten großflächig ins Stadtbild – eingebettet in die visuelle Sprache urbaner Werbung.
Anna Mirbach (*1981 in Bonn) lebt und arbeitet in Düsseldorf. Sie studierte an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf und der Universität der Künste Berlin. Ihre Arbeiten, ob performativ, kollektiv oder skulptural, entstehen häufig in oder aus Grauzonen des öffentlichen Raumes heraus. Sie nahm an zahlreichen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen im In- und Ausland teil, darunter Düsseldorf, Kyjiw, New York, London, Chongqing.

Underground locations, LED advertising screens throughout the city
The work Underground Bodies offers insight into invisible in-between worlds. In several locations beneath the city—within bridge shafts, sewer systems, or subway areas—semi-abstract metal sculptures are installed. Adorned with jewelry and imitations of hair or skin, they evoke associations with human bodies. At the same time, the sculptures recall the branching network of the city. Their fragmented forms resist clear categorization. Underground Bodies connects the life above ground with the hidden infrastructures that keep the “urban body” alive. Through video recordings, the sculptures are brought from darkness into light. The projections appear on LED screens across the urban space. This creates a double presence: the sculptures, anchored in underground places, enter the cityscape on a large scale—embedded in the visual language of urban advertising.
Anna Mirbach (*1981 in Bonn) lives and works in Düsseldorf. She studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and the Berlin University of the Arts. Her works—whether performative, collective, or sculptural—often emerge in or from the gray zones of public space. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany and abroad, including in Düsseldorf, Kyiv, New York, London, and Chongqing.

Die Ausspielung des Projekts findet ganztägig statt. Bespielt werden vom 19.01. bis 25.01.2026 ausgewählte Screens im Stadtraum Düsseldorf, vom 26.01. bis 01.02.2026 Infoscreens in den U-Bahnhöfen Heinrich-Heine-Allee, Kettwiger Straße, Hauptbahnhof und Steinstraße, Düsseldorf und vom 02.02. bis 08.02.2026 der LED-Screen am Parkhaus Carlsplatz, Düsseldorf.
The project will be shown throughout the day. From January 19 to January 25, 2026, it will be shown on selected screens in Düsseldorf city center, from January 26 to February 1, 2026, on information screens in the subway stations Heinrich-Heine-Allee, Kettwiger Straße, Hauptbahnhof, and Steinstraße Düsseldorf, and from February 2 to February 8, 2026, on the LED screen at the parking garage Carlsplatz, Düsseldorf.
